The party went well and was not nearly as fancy as the invitation made it sound. In fact, I may have been the only person there who was not wearing jeans (but I was by no means dressed up--just black slacks and a casual blouse). However, no other guests brought anything for the dinner, so I did not feel out of place with no cookies. It was a nice party, and we were among the last to leave.
Today we received a check in the mail for fifty dollars from the electric company, which was a nice surprise.
Walter and I were talking with a co-worker and his wife last night, and we may move back into the city this summer when our lease is up. We are living in this suburb because we are spending 100 to 200 dollars less a month on rent, but if I do enough looking, I may be able to find us a place that is as nice as this one and relatively the same in price. I have found one place that I am interested in, which is actually fifty dollars cheaper a month, but I definitely want to see it in person before I make any decisions. I really do like the place we have now, but the commute is something we just do not enjoy. We'll see how things work out.

I did like living in the city (Boston). what city do u mean? It can be cheaper in other things like not having to spend money on gas. We even were down to one car when we lived in the city and basically walked everywhere. OF course, we also spent more going out all the time, it's just so easy in the city! Good luck!
Our city is a small one in Missouri. It is a small city/large town of about 100,000 people. It's not actually a big enough "city" to go without a car, but it's not bad. We grew up in the rural areas where everything was at least a 20-mile drive. We really love the size of the city--big enough for a lot of convenience and some animosity but small enough that you still see people you know when you go out. But as it is looking, the only places we can afford with enough space are...less than satisfactory. So we may stay here in the suburb for another year.
