Blah

I expected to feel better today than yesterday, but my hands are swollen and my legs are weak. I still intend to do dishes and laundry and run the vacuum. But until the weakness subsides a bit (and it will--rheumatoid arthritis is worst upon waking), I am in bed watching The Martha Stewart Show.

Allow me to talk a bit about my relationship with Martha. As a teenager, I was terrified of her. I actually had a legitimate phobia of her. I don't know why, but I think it was the vast amount of power that, in my adolescent mind, was achieved by doing exactly nothing. Now, that power amazes me. Even a stay in prison did not harm her empire. In fact, it quite possibly helped it. She has always been somewhat of a goddess to housewives, ranking with the likes of Julia Child and Donna Reed, but someone I have always avoided. But today, her guest made these adorable acorn lamps to compliment some toadstools from a previous show. And then she announced that next week is cookie week! And like that, the phobia was gone, and the altar to Martha was immediately erected next to my vacuum and hot glue gun.

And now Desperate Housewives is on. Will I ever get any work done?
