Post-Storm Calm

Christmas and its festivities have come to a close, of which I am glad. Everything went splendidly, but it is time for a break. My house is in total disarray, and I need to put it back together.

All of my baking went over quite well. I even managed to have a very small piece of the peppermint cake without getting sick, despite the large amounts of lactose in it. The only leftovers we have are three of the chocolate mint cookies. Everyone was in a good mood, there were no squabbles (which, given the current state of my relationship with my sister, surprised me greatly), and it was, quite possibly, the best Christmas I have had in years. My sister's soon-to-be ex-husband even sent me a Christmas message, and it was great to hear from him.

Walter and I managed to obtain a large sum of cash from the holidays, which is incredibly fantastic, as well as a number of delightful gifts. Walter received nearly 200 comic books that a coworker of my father's found, as well as some other gifts that were perfect for him. I received a cookbook from my sister, and my mother gave me some of her old cookbooks as well as a glass pie plate, three casserole dishes, some wire cooling racks, and some Shamwow cloths (which, despite the commercial being scam-like, actually are some of the most fantastic towels in existence). Everyone was quite pleased with the gifts we got them, as well. All in all, it was a great holiday season. We plan on saving most of the money we received, but I do plan to buy a cheap bookcase for the kitchen, as I am running out of room for my cookbooks.

The only downside to everything was that after coming home last night, I slipped on the stairs and hurt my foot. It is still swollen and will not support weight, but I am pretty sure it is not broken. When it happened, I immediately thought of Marzipan. I was planning to clean the bedroom closet today, but it will have to wait until my foot holds me up a bit better.

I hope everyone else's holidays were as great as mine!

EDIT: I forgot to mention, my aunt gave us some homemade salsa, pear butter, apple pear sauce, and blackberry jam. It is fantastic!

Sounds like you had fun, as well. I am sorry about your foot. I just finished, with my nieces help, to do the final loads of dishes, my good china had to be hand washed and dried and is back in its corner cabinet, floors vacuumed and moped top to bottom and just sitting down to a break.
Were ur casseroles a particular pattern, do u collect a particular pattern? I collect the pyrex 50's casseroles and bowls amish (it has the cute blue roosters and people)

These were just clear glass casserole dishes. I do not collect a particular pattern, really. I have a set of blue China (with Chinese pictures, and some of the bowls have grains of rice baked into them, very nice), but it is my special occasion dishware and is never used.
